CHALCHIHUITES

A world apart

To some body else to our customs and history, just the bizarre name invites you to speculation, but I must say that this place is the oldest vestige preserved nowadays ( I'm talking about 200 AD ) that sows and give testimony about this dry land vocation, untame but enormously wished and full with mystery.

It's name CHALCHIHUITES declares by it self what it was and still is -Green Stone Land- in few words at that time just like this ( saying it allegorically as a modern way ), the Central Bank House or the money printing and coining place, thus green stone is what actually know as JADE, at pre-Columbian time it represented the value unity such as currency for us.

Arriving to CHALCHIHUITES cost me about one year and a half of residency in Zacatecas, not because of distance from the city, but because I had to go round to other interior routes in myself to be able to access to this place, and going back to my memory I value this thus it was timely to look at it such as I did. I must say that before this trip, and part of my previous route I could get close to Pedro Coronel paintings, watching how the ancestral and modern could be wove in a moving way in his work, how his pictorial speech take us into a colorical forces and forms movement like if they came out from the wild rough México that when it seems are going to smash to each other, from his palette emerges harmony putting them in peace, and they go back to his hand, a majestic composition multiform orchested reach with visual harmonies.

When we arrived to Alta Vista ( how it's well known too ) and after crossing by the homonym town, we found with its ruins spectacle, a small pile a little bit bigger to two hectares according to my memory, won by nature, but in its highest point scratched by human hands, a white town, burned by sun, emerges by ground, shining, made up to the view of its actual village ( but temporary ). Watching that provokes the same feeling that being in front of those enormous canvases from the zacatecano painter, to watch its wall, columns, squares, the disposition of the inexisting battlements wall rows, its conical masses room, or the disposition and forces game gave in its mazeful walk in one of its levels, it didn't do more than taking me to depth that stuff I had discovered through the Coronel's artwork.

From this trip to CHALCHIHUITES, next to the others done with Karla to la Quemada and Peña de Bernal ( Queretaro ), I understood that it´s from this view, this feeling, this living how my painting had to sprout what I call mexican-neoexpressionism ( not to name schools or tendencies but to talk about a characteristic expression personality ). I have clear that these are the roots which I have decided to take classes, to Pedro, David Alfaro, Jose Clemente, Rufino, among others, and our cultural roots, not only the pre-Columbian ones but the Spanish ones full with barroquism, mysticism and enrolled in a surrealist symbolic world, which everybody have drunk its waters and where sprout our peculiar way to be nowadays. In the same way it's from here where is emerging gradually the speech of this new pictorial contemporary dialogue in my palette.
